down to the river where the birds fly low
and you sail away on the sunset glow
to the cemetery where your lover sleeps
where the sunflowers grow and the foxes weep
will you meet me there at the break of day
when the tides rise up and the birds fly away?
little soldier, little sun, little blue eyed wolf
sing to the mercy of the sky above
down through the forest to the clear blue stream
where the foxes hunt but are never seen
parting water and sky, see what you've become
and the sunflowers bow to your kingdom come
and we run to the beat of the sunset drum
through the poisoned fields of the midnight sun
there are ghosts in the air they can smell your fear
better run for your life as the night draws near

Julien Baker is an acquired taste - assuming of course you’ve acquired great taste in singer songwriters… beautiful, devastating, honest, insightful… I’ve not heard a single song of hers that hasn’t left me in absolute awe. crisbroadhurst

Well... Like some people here, I never really liked that song! However, this is *so* much better than the original, for all the reasons already listed by deluded_marxist! The depth of feelings here, especially from the vocals but also the slow music, really is on a whole other level! Thanks to Tara Tantrum for taking me here! Highly recommended!!! bmurator

This is the first album I found that really spoke to me as a young fem.
From the simplicity, the bass drum, specifically in landfill is so steady and soothing. I love landfill because it perfectly portrays trauma bonds, sexual or romantic relationships rooted in power imbalance. Being led on, unrequited love, constantly being clueless if someone is a real friend, or a lover. Are they yours or are they ruthlessly rogue. Untameable. Love and hate are such similar feelings, and they often mingle. clementinehatepageichangedmymind
